Rob McWilliams is a data privacy consultant with Vancord.
Over a 30-year career with global information and technology businesses, Rob has seen data privacy from both sides of the equation—as a user of personal data to create better products and services, and as a compliance officer concerned with risk management. This dual background drives Rob’s practical, collaborative approach to data privacy.
Rob started in data privacy as Vice President and Data Privacy Officer at Thomson Financial, charged with creating pragmatic compliance programs for diverse businesses and operations in the US, Europe, Japan, and other markets. Rob has since assisted the privacy practices of consulting firms, as well as his own clients in the information & analytics, education and health technology, and not-for-profit sectors.
Rob is an International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US and CIPP/Europe), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and Fellow of Information Privacy. This combination of internationally recognized privacy credentials ensures that Rob can assess organizations’ privacy requirements and deliver an effective privacy program aligned with overall business goals.
Rob holds a BA in Modern History from Oxford University, UK. In his spare time, he is a keen hiker and volunteer trail maintainer. In 2018, Rob published a book (The Kiss of Sweet Scottish Rain) about a trek across his native Scotland.
